Alignment, strength, patience. Iyengar yoga is less common in Basel studios than other forms of yoga but those who practice Iyengar are very dedicated to this style.
Iyengar yoga was developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the most well-known yoga teachers of the twentieth century. In an Iyengar class you will spend a long time in each pose, in order to give you a deep understanding of how the pose should feel and what muscles you are targeting.
Staying in a pose for a long time can be tiring, so Iyengar yoga uses props such as blocks and straps to support students in the poses. This helps you achieve correct alignment while the teacher also assists you to make sure you are in the right position for each pose.
